Cosmology and Other Dominions

First a note on the words plane/dominion and how I use them: it’s lower case unless it’s a proper noun e.g. “Which plane do you come from?” “I’m from the Ophidian Plane.” “We went hopping from one dominion to the next. First to the Clover Dominion, then the Kreuz Dominion, and now we’re in the Nureshian Dominion.”

A “Dominion” can contain several planes and dimensions, but is not equal to the universe. Here are some terms I use in my stories and their definitions in the context of my worlds:

Plane: a plane is a “unit” of 3D space. You can physically travel anywhere on a plane without the need of portals. They can be small. The Aloutian and Makai Planes are both only just bigger than their planets. In both cases, if a space-traveler were to fly to the edge of the plane, they would come out the opposite side e.g. if you take off from the north pole, you’ll pass through the wall of Darkness, then be looking at the south pole. A plane can also be the size of many galaxies. The Cosmo Plane is one such plane. Starsine and Munil are physically close to each other and can be seen in each other’s skies, but Solsun and Blue Home are both in distant galaxies.

Dominion: Any number of planes connected to the same timeline. If you leave Aloutia on Day 1 and travel across the other planes for a week, you can be sure when you return to Aloutia that only a week will have passed. When you travel between dominions, this is not the case. If you leave the Pentagonal Dominion on Day 1 and spend a week in Terra, you might find that a thousand years have passed in the PD. Or you might get sent to the distant past. Or an alternate timeline altogether. You might not even be in what is technically called the Pentagonal Dominion anymore.

Superdominion: A collection of dominions ruled by a single time-traveling/time-adjacent godlike entity and using the same magic system. For the sake of not spoiling my books or the nature of the Time Spirit, I often refer to this as the Pentagonal Dominion, but that’s not an accurate name because it contains the other dominions which I’ll describe here.

The Universe: In my books, when I refer to ‘the universe’ I am quite literally referring to everything. The Terran Dominion, the Pentagonal Dominion, and all the other infinite dominions that might exist. This could even incorporate other author’s fantasy/sci-fi worlds.

When I discuss timelines, I sometimes refer to “five minutes after creation.” See, in this world, the Time Spirit went back to the very earliest moment with the components that would create the world. For about five minutes, nothing was created, but time continued to pass. This created multiple timelines for multiple different ‘starting points.’ In one creation event, six planes were created in a pentagon shape. In another, four planes were created in a clover shape. In another, five planes were created in a cross-shape. In another, 16 made a lotus.

So what is the Pentagonal Dominion exactly? It’s six planes connected to the same timeline. It includes everything in space and time from the moment it was made five minutes after the start of time, to the end of time. Its creation is defined by the six planes, connected by magic in a pentagonal shape, and the laws of physics in each plane. One of the planes, Cosmo, is home to the Force Core, which causes various weird things to happen in regards to physics and gravity. The rest of the planes are fairly ‘normal.’

But, in the multiple timelines created in the five minutes after creation, other dominions were formed. Some of them include:

Anuran Dominion: Named for their Mind Goddess, Anura, who was a frog who became sapient when she became a Goddess. She slew a male frog as he touched the Life Core, made him sapient, and made him into her mate. She made many insects sapient over the course of her rule. The planet they lived on eventually became inhospitable, and the Life God transformed dragonflies into Odonata so they could escape into the Hollow Void. In their vernacular, ocean was the ‘deep sea’, and air was the ‘shallow sea.’

Clover Dominion: Four similar sapient species evolved here, one on each of the four planes. At one point in their Stone Age, Greek-speaking people from the Terran Dominion arrived and taught one of the four (the Ulese) their language. Most of the Clover Dominion’s time lines are ruled by the Mind Goddess Kimara. The Time Spirit took people from three of the four species and placed them in the Pentagonal Dominion (Ulese, Omi, and Umi). The Ulese brought to the PD still spoke a language derived from Greek. In the future, Ulese people from the PD will travel to Terra, to a time when the Hellenic language was beginning to split from PIE, and influence language development there.

Slevan Dominion: Numerous species evolved here, some humanoid and some not. Due to the large number of species, it also allowed for the evolution of ‘single-sex’ species that require interbreeding with another species (explaining what happens with genetics would require a whole topic on its own. Suffice to say, kids are usually either one species or the other, rather than hybrids, but hybridization does occur). Early Terrans traveling to this dominion included PIE people, thus this dominion also spoke PIE initially. Many of the languages that evolved from PIE on Earth also evolved similarly in this dominion. Slavic languages, called Slevan, became the most dominant culturally, hence the name of the dominion. In the PD, Slevan refers to the dominion while Sleva refers to the language which is also present in the PD. All the Yosoe of the PD came from a timeline of the Slevan Dominion ruled by Hestar, a goat who became the Mind Goddess after eating the Mind core. Legend has it that the word ‘Yosoe’ derived from ‘Io sono’, the first words Hestar said: “Io sono sapiente.” (I am a sapienti).

Snowflake Dominion: Named both because it is seven planes arranged like a snowflake, but also because every plane is very cold. The Ruomalaiset, Zullia, and Piniko evolved here. My world’s canon is that they developed the Uralic language themselves and then a few who ventured into Terra circa 7000 BCE and spread it to humans in the Urals.

Kreuz Dominion: Five planes arranged in a cross-shaped. Three of the planes are entirely underwater. Poltergeists and Krakens both evolved here. They learned language from Germanic people circa 600 BCE who ended up in this dominion. The Poltergeists would eventually develop modern German (and yes, they named themselves ‘noisy ghost’) while the Krakens would develop a Scandinavian language (and yes, they named themselves ‘crooked’)

Nureshian Dominion: Named after their Mind God Nureshishal, a Dragon. Origin of Draeg-Dragons, Anemone, Equara, and some Wynnles. The people of this dominion initially spoke Celtic, which later evolved into other variants.

Not all dominions are places where people evolve. The PD, for instance, was populated instantly by people the Time Spirit brought from these other dominions. The Lotus Dominion is another one that was populated right after it was created.

Some other dominions I’ve created:

Lotus Dominion

Takyu Dominion

Jade Dominion

Ing Dominion

Also, as a parting note, the existence of dominions basically allows for infinite fanfic potential. If any real person were so inclined, they could create their own world with whatever species they want present from the beginning. They can make their own OCs into Gods/Spirits, play around with their own demons or angels, create their own stories. It’s all cool with me. My world is a playground for everyone to enjoy.
